Of the several things basic to sustaining life that we may take for granted, such as clean water and air, and protection from the elements of excessive heat and cold, one factor that may often be the first one thought about is food. Possibly another 'take it for granted' is that all of us always have a supply of food that is adequate in quantity and quality. Of course, that is not the case, particularly currently and in recent history. Conditions such as 'conflict' (war), drought and other unfavorable climate conditions, economic and supply chain issues, and agricultural inefficiency have created food insecurity or outright famine in many areas of the planet. It is observed that those who are most vulnerable to and affected by these conditions are women and children. Despite admirable ongoing efforts by many institutions and organizations, inadequate quantity and quality of food remain a formidable problem for hundreds of millions of souls on the planet.
