To the indigenous coastal people of Alaska, our 50th state, the salmon is sustenance. The fisheries industry, conservation, and preservation of the salmon is crucial to their way of life. In diet, livelihood, and spirituality, the salmon is inexorably linked to the Tlinglit peoples' ritual and survival, thus their common ground. This truth is illustrated here using inspiration from tribal totems, creating stylized figures overlaid with an oil glaze depicting the importance of the salmon.
