Many indigenous tribes planted the three sisters; corn, beans and squash. The Choctaw planted them on small mounds. The corn stalk provided for the climbing beans, the beans provided nitrogen for the soil, and the squash provided a low canopy that retained moisture. Independently, each could survive on their own, but together, they thrive. This is a lesson for us, as humans. Three crops, one common ground, growing in harmony, working together.
