We’ve all experienced loss. Grief, in its many forms, is one thing that unites every human. No one is immune to the passing of a loved one. It is within this shared experience that we find common ground in the search for comfort, connection, and meaning.

For many, the mere presence of a cardinal carries deep significance. Often seen as spiritual messengers, they symbolize — or even embody — lost loved ones visiting, watching over us, and reminding us of the impact they left behind. Sometimes appearing as an isolated hello, other times as a daily visitor, cardinals have become a comforting presence for many.

In this painting, “The Messengers,” the cardinal pairs represent lost parents or grandparents watching over us. What is lost is not entirely gone but continues to exist in our world as a symbol of comfort. This piece reflects both the grief of loss and the enduring reminder that love persists beyond it.
