The Hecate Series is a collaborative work from the exhibition Love Letters which grew out of a long-distance exchange and creative dialogue between Sarah Graves and Christine Hogg. These collaborative works began during a period of creative depletion, when watercolor became a way for Sarah to stay in motion, painting within open fields without the pressure for clarity or a finite end.

She invited Christine into this fluid space, offering her watercolor environments to sculpt entities from through pen and ink, recognizing shared experiences through the interplay of their mediums.

Through their visual and verbal dialogue, they recognized themes affecting their work and lives while living in separate regions of the U.S. and explored common topics with care and honesty.

Mounted in custom maple hangers, the final works hold the intimacy and shared ground between the collaborators: two artists, two geographies, two mediums. Yet multiple entities meeting on a single page across the lines. This collaboration embodies the theme by showing how connection forms not through sameness, but through mutual listening.
