Pilgrims from all over the world come to Santuario de Chimayo for healing, believing that just touching the dirt inside this holy place has the power to heal whatever ails them. The need for healing affects all pilgrims regardless of their race, religion, ethnicity, financial standing, or position in society. Illness levels the field and the need for healing when ill, particularly from some incurable disease, creates common ground among all who seek healing.
