This watercolor explores the idea of peace as humanity’s shared foundation—our common ground—through universal symbols and an open landscape. At the center of the composition, a dove in flight carries an olive twig, an enduring emblem of peace that transcends culture, language, and history. The dove moves forward across a radiant sunset (or sunrise), suggesting both hope and continuity: peace as something simultaneously timeless and continually renewed that also serves as a stronghold, a “citadel”, for balance as we all seek to exist together.
In the foreground, a single path divides, one turning left and the other right, representing the choices each of us makes as individuals and as societies. While our paths may differ, the dove rises above them, reminding us that peace is not tied to any one direction or ideology. Rather, it is the shared destination where humanity most often finds agreement and common purpose.
The mountains and luminous sky establish a sense of scale and permanence, reinforcing the idea that peace is larger than any single moment or conflict. By placing choice, landscape, and symbol
together, this work reflects my belief that when peace becomes our common ground, it allows for greater harmony, understanding, and prosperity for all.
