This painting was inspired from my nightmares as a child. My Grandmother sang this English lullaby from the 1700s to me every night. She was actually from England, and I’m sure she didn’t realize how it was affecting me. It goes like this:
“Oh don’t you remember a long time ago
Two poor little babes, their names I don’t know
They were stolen away one cold winter day
And left in the woods, I’ve heard people say
And when they were dead the robin so red
Brought strawberry leaves and over them spread
Now all the day long, we’ll sing them this song
For the poor little babes who have perished and gone.”
The work has several hidden features like blackbirds in the trees, animal eyes peering out and of course the little frozen babies.
I have been an artist for more than 50 years, selling works all over the United States. I painted the scenery for many productions for dance recitals and was commissioned to do promotional materials including postcards, businesses and advertising brochures as well as commissions for my great customers. I enjoyed having a small gallery at Brick City for several years and loved it.
Recently I was blessed to have a painting purchased by the ACHE Research Center to be hung in their permanent art exhibition hall and two paintings purchased for the Cleveland Clinic in their permanent Art Gallery.
My favorite mediums are acrylics, watercolor and chalk paintings. Because I am also a Real Estate agent, I have painted many homes, churches and pet portraits. My very favorite things to paint are landscapes.
