Aaron and Mariah Newman

Aaron and Mariah graduated from Southside High School in 1995. Over the course of the next 20 years, both artists developed substance abuse issues and struggled to stay clean.  Several attempts were made to stay sober by both Aaron and Mariah.

In 2015, they became reacquainted and fell ‘head over heels’ for one another. A firm resolve was made by the couple to live a different life, a life without alcohol and the drugs they had previously abused. The couple knew they would have to find something to do with their free time. The concept for Aariah Sol Glass was born.

Aariah is a combination of the pair’s first names and sol is Latin for sun. Aaron bought his first torch in December 2016 and got to work almost immediately. He started with beads and progressed quickly and started making pendants and marbles. A year after Aaron began glass work, Mariah delved into the art and was soon making her own glass beads.

They believe art has the power to help heal and turn one’s life around. It gave these two recovered addicts, who were once hopeless, purpose!
