The Myth of the Precarious Nest embodies the theme Beasts of the Imagination by exploring the fragile balance between survival and uncertainty. Carved from white oak using direct carving techniques, the sculpture reveals organic forms—some half-formed, others suggesting serpents, birds, buds, leaves, and eggs—emerging from the grain. These creatures, born from the wood’s natural structure, exist in a liminal space – a transitional space – between reality and imagination, inviting viewers to contemplate the blurred boundaries between the known and the mythical. Egg-like forms are precariously perched on the edge of the hollowed-out nest, evoking both shelter and vulnerability, a place where the continuation of life hangs in delicate suspense. In this work, myth and reality intertwine in an ever-repeating story of risk, resilience, and the struggle for existence.
