Chen studied painting at the University of Arkansas and received a BFA in Studio Art in 2004. During her studies at the UA, she was twice the recipient of the Blanche Elliott Award. Her course essay on the artist Paul Klee won the Best Art History Paper award in 2004. 

Since Chen’s graduation in 2004, she has taught painting and drawing at the University of Arkansas as an adjunct professor, as well as an artist in residence at numerous elementary and secondary schools in the State of Arkansas. Chens works are included in many private and public collections. Lin Chen lives with her husband, Ken, in Charleston, Arkansas, where she continues to paint in her home studio.
